• Day 1 – 08/27/2010 Friday – 8 Weeks old

Today Dozer got his first shot.  Hollywood gave it to him today after we bought it from the Vail Feed store.  After the shot he became very sleepy.  He also got to go for his first car ride.  Today was a very big day full of many firsts for little Dozer.  When we got home Dozer’s new toys and a 20lb bag of food were waiting for us on the back porch.  I ordered them off the internet through Amazon.com and Walmart.com and they showed up right on time.  He got a Kong Ball, a rope toy and a bag of Nature’s Recipe large breed puppy food.  Portia a 6 year old Basenji/Boxer mix took on a new roll today – Mommy.  She loves Baby Dozer very much right away.  Gizmo our 11 year old Chihuahua wanted nothing to do with our new family member.  After an afternoon filled with playing and potty training (only 2 pee accidents in the house) it was time for bed.  At 10pm he was very tired, as were Bryan and I.  So we put a towel and some paper in the kennel that was sitting in the living room.  This happens to be right outside our bedroom door.  After 20 minutes of heart wrenching crying I had to move him and his kennel to one of the back bed rooms.  I put a towel over the door of the kennel like you would a bird’s cage.  This was the method that worked for Miss Portia so I thought I would try it.  After 10 more minutes of crying/barking he gave in and went to sleep.  This was his first night all aloneso I gave him a little blue bear to sleep with.  All of our dogs have had some kind of “baby”.  Portia had two Monkeys and Gizmo had a Taco Bell Chihuahua.
