Per KOLD:
The last time we saw weather this cold in February was in 1956. This is officially an Arctic Express, since the air originated north of the 60th Parallel, otherwise known as the Arctic Circle.

One front moved through early Tuesday. Another one, a Canadian front, will move through early Wednesday. Yet a third one, the Arctic Express, will move through early Thursday.

This is a devestating freeze for plants not well adapted to this dry, bitter Arctic air. Homeless risk hypothermia if they don't make it to a shelter. Pets face the risk of hypothermia if they are not cared for. Pets that are outdoor-only pets need fresh, unfrozen water and a safe shelter.

Pipes exposed to this Arctic air will burst if not protected.

According to Pima Council on Aging, more than 15,000 elderly people reside alone in Pima County. Check on the elderly to make sure they have adequate ways of staying warm.

School children should be dressed in layers of breathable cotton clothes. As the Arctic front nears, the cold will be accompanied by gusty, northerly wind. This will make daytime highs in the 30s feel more like they are in the 20s. Nighttime lows in the teens will feel like they are in the single digits.

Take action NOW to protect People, Plants, Pets and Pipes.
